Benefits of Chimney Liners

A chimney liner is a lining of metal or ceramic that is mostly done on the masonry chimneys so as to contain and direct the combustion products outside to prevent the chimney wall from corrosion and heat. There are three common functions of a chimney liner. The first function is protecting the chimney walls from combustion by products. If the chimney walls are not protected then that means that in due time the gases might start penetrating through the mortar and the brick. The mortar will eventually erode because of the eating away caused by the acidic gases. This would then allow harmful gases like carbon monoxide to pass through the chimney walls and into the house.

The second function of chimney liners is to protect the other combustible materials around the chimney from being exposed to the heat transferred through the chimney walls. Unlined chimney walls will cause the materials around them like wood to catch fire eventually due to the heat passing through the wall. The third function of chimney liners is providing the right fitted flue for the modern appliances optimum efficiency. The chimney acts as a two way street that in one way it removes the harmful by-products to the outside the house and in the other way bringing in oxygen which is necessary for combustion in most of the appliances. Thus a correctly sized flue will allow the appliance to function well with ideal flow of air.

There are different types of chimney liners Here! depending on the material they are made from. The first one is the clay chimney liner and they are the most commonly used type of liner. They are also cheap and readily available. The other benefit of clay chimney liners is that they perform well in open fireplace chimneys. The limitation of using clay tiles is that they do not necessarily remove all the heat caused by the chimney fires therefore causing cracks and splits on the side of the chimney. Modern gas cookers also produce a lot of liquid by products which the clay tiles cannot adequately contain. The other type of chimney liner is the metal chimney liners which are made from either aluminium or stainless steel.  They are a bit expensive as compared to the clay but these metal liners are very safe and durable. The Last type of chimney liners is the cast in place liners. These are usually made from a coating of cement that is seamlessly applied in the chimney walls.

There are many companies that sell and install chimney liners and a good example is the Chimney Liner Pro. For more information about Chimney Liner Pro you can always visit their website to learn more.
